Your First Visit
1st of all, right off the bat you'll notice something different about Prax Family Chiropractic & Massage and their staff. Upon entering our office our receptionist will greet you, give you a tour of the office and welcome you as a member of our family. What's also unique is that you'll be seen within minutes, sometimes seconds of your appointment time. We do have a traditional "waiting room" but don't get to comfy because you won't be in there long! We will request you fill our patient forms located in the New Patient Center. If you can, please print all of the appropriate forms and fill them out in the convenience of you home and bring them in. [(1) New Patient Intake, or Pediatric Intake form, (2) Terms of Acceptance Form and the (3) HIPPA Privace form.] The paperwork provides us with general information about yourself and your condition.
Next you will have a consultation with either Dr. Brian or Dr. Brian Prax to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, as well as potential care options. Your first visit is designed for Dr. Brian and/or Dr. Brian Prax to learn more about you, your condition and your expectations to determine whether chiropractic care meets your goals. There is no charge for the Consultation...ever!
After your consultation, Dr. Brian or Dr. Brian Prax will perform a complete chiropractic examination testing your reflexes, your ability to turn and bend as well as other standard neurologic, orthopedic, postural, and physical examinations. Nothing will be done in our office without your consent.
Your specific condition may require us to perform Computerized Scans of your spine, muscles and nervous system. These highly technologically based diagnostic tools are completely non-invasive and very informative. The sEMG (Surface Electromyolograph) measures tightness in muslces also looking for areas that are out of balance and the Infraed Thermography measures temperature of the skin which is a function of the Autonomic Nervouse System. Occasionally we may need to refer out for X-rays to to get a full evaluation of a patient. X-rays help us rule out more serious conditions or assist us in developing the most effective care plan for you. Most people are amazed once they see the results of their Computerized Scans and/ or x-rays and can often immediately identify their misalignments and degeneration themselves.
This is usually perfomred on the second visist. Once all the information and examinations have been performed, Dr. Prax will give you a "Report of Findings" to answer the four most common questions:
After discussing with you your history and your goals, examining your spine and reviewing any computerized scans or other tests, Dr. Brian or Brian Prax will discuss recommendations with you. If you have a condition that requires care with other providers, the doctor will tell you. If Dr. Brian or Brian Prax believes we can help you, we will recommend care and a wellness program.
Patients will generally be provided with their first adjustment at the conclusion of the appointment. This may include spinal adjustments, manual therapies, and/or soft tissue therapies. Care is interactive with you so you can express any concerns you have about the style of adjustment you will be most comfortable with. If you prefer a "non Cracking" adjustment make sure you let the doctor know...we have many options for you!
Prior to leaving, patients will be instructed on a wellness program to be conducted at home. If you are in pain when you first come into our office, this may include ice or heat application instructions, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises and/or stretches. If you desire an overall wellness lifestyle, our wellness team will work with you to create good habits and routines that support your success. Every body is unique and different and therefore everyone requires a unique and customized wellness plan. The foundation of our overall wellness lifestyle is maintaining healthy posture and good spinal alignment, eating a healthy diet, taking supplements, keeping your weight under control and stress relief.
